Ebbe Wollrath Tamm föddes 1895, son till Fredrik August Tamm (1847-1905) och hans första hustru Augusta Josefina Elisabet (Lisen) född Lundkvist (1865-1898), i Uppsala.
Han gifte sig med Clara Ottilia "Tilli", född Nyman, 1935.
