Företaget grundades 1797 som Gustaf IV Adolfs Stenkohlsverk. Andra namnformer har varit: Skånska Stenkohlsverket 1812-1822, Höganäs Stenkohlsverk 1823-1903. Höganäs Billesholms AB 1903-?, Idag Höganäs AB. 1832/33 startade lergodstillverkningen.
